The Battle of Basantar was one of the vital battles fought during India - Pakistan War of 1971 in Western Sector. Indian Army thwarted the battle plans of Pakistan to invade Shakargarh bulge by launching a bold offensive within four days of declaration of war when its formations reached and got deployed on the outskirts of Sialkot town. Indian troops were awarded two Param Vir Chakras, four Maha Vir Chakras and four Vir Chakras in this battle.
